Seeing Pink

I'm REALLY nervous!I meet my new oncologist tomorrow.I mean, granted all I have right now is Zometa twice a year (which the new onc could change),it strengthens my bones.I also have the usual rounds of tests, which are due to be redone soon.I also have the usual boring daily meds.

But I have to plead my case (it's always quality of life vs quantity of years) for certain things that BC,treatment and the aftermath f*d up.Politely enough-I am in menopause thanks to surgery (and I was 31 when I got it) and I need hormones! But they feed my tumor type-sooooo,I have to explain WHY I need low doses of them and hope the onc agrees.

But you know what?I can handle the challenge.I mean I kicked cancer's @SS,buried it and danced on its grave...and I would do it again if I had to.So,what's to be afraid of anymore?

Oh yeah and then there's THIS:

Okay, here's the thing:it's KFC!!!!Fried chicken!Part of what no one should make a habit of eating, esp. BC patients. On top of that-50 cents?Really???50 cent per bucket of chicken sold? What a crock! They could just donate a said amount rather than a lousy 50 cents per bucket! That is VERY little of each bucket per price.Geez, think before you pink.

You know thats what I hate about big companies 'supporting' charities, they are a great way to raise awareness but they always donate the smallest amount of money possible! It frustrates me because they make so much money and they give so little I dont know it just always frustrates me.

Saying that the MS charities do nothing! Well not nothing but very little to raise awareness I wish they would do more. Im trying to think of ways to do that myself I mean I do on my fansites but I dont feel like its enough....OMG Im so sorry Im hijacking your thread sorry honey.

Good luck with your new oncologist I wish you many good vibes and luck with getting your point accross

I was hoping you would reply!I know MS gets very little attention and I hate that.I think breast cancer is the disease "darling" of the moment. Why?People get their macabre fix because women are getting there * surgically altered (in a bad way) and they get to plead shock when young women come out and say "I have BC too." and they are all under 40.I think it is a "darling" because you can't catch it,it isn't related to any "forbidden" lifestyle and most people think it is temporary. They think everyone lives after a battle with the beast and they are WRONG.

But MS is similar to that as well in that you can't "catch" it,fault can't be pursued and people get that f*g sympathy they love to express out of the way.

Makes me want to smack them.MS needs more money, more attention,so does Alzheimer's (it took my grandfather from me),so does heart disease and addiction.I will walk, bike, run for ANY illness!I do have ones close to my heart:March of Dimes,Alzheimer's,any cancer and ANYTHING related to helping animals.

OMG we are so on the same page! There is always the illness for the moment in the 90s it was AIDs and other STDs now you never hear anything about it! I know what you mean as well when you mentioned not being able to catch things. Its like people want to be able to prevent stuff smoking, exercise, some strange alternative therapy and when an illness doesnt have that people just dont want to know and its so frustrating!

Me and my mum have MS which is incredibly rare yet nobody has asked to do any kind of testing or study on us to see if its because of genes or something. Funding is so low for MS research its a joke! Same with alziemers its an awful illness so its swept away where the general public cannot see it or think about it! Saying that have you seen the film Iris? Incredible true story of a woman with alziemers and a very low grossing film even with the cast it has. People just do not want to think about it at all

The discussion has taken a bit of a curve but I did want to say to the initial post: You're amazing! The spirit you have is just awesome. I the oncologist visit wasn't as frustrating as it could have been.

Also, you're so right on the chicken bucket. If we go on supporting BC like this we can expect that the next hot disease charity will be arterial blockage. We'll probably sell guns to support that one. Geeze.
