So, when I was a kid I brought the 80's to the nineties. I'm not kidding, well into the mid nineties I wore stirrup pants, oversized sweaters, and multicolor tube socks squished down into accordions on my ankles over my shoes. I was a mess.
So imagine my surprise when a decade later leggings come back into style. And, okay, I can deal with leggings under skirts and shorts. I did that...as you'd be able to tell from my traumatizing pictures in my old family photo album. But wearing leggings as pants? Something about the application of a piece of clothing as skin tight as leggings as pants not only gives me nostalgic heartburn but questions the common sense of the general population as to adequate lower body coverage!
Lets forget for a moment that wearing anything tight in your lower region is just plain unhealthy. But when you rely on such a material to provide you protection from the elements, it's time to do some introspection. It also bothers me when you can plainly see a panty-line. But, I think, it bothers me more when there is no visible panty-line!
But, I think this fashion phase is phasing out. The new phase coming through looks to be a throwback to the 50's/punk rock. Then again, I live in a state that is settled right in the middle of a whole bunch of Kudzu, so we might be a little behind everyone else. But, regardless, it just keeps on fascinating me the cycles of fashion. It's like we're constantly trying to relocate our identity in decades past. I was promised that by this time we'd be wearing metallic fabrics and sitting in hover cars. I'm a little more than disappointed.
